The world and the real
The World and the Real
Le monde et le réel
libri nigri, volume 78
327 pages, paperback
The volume brings together essays by international authors who sound out and discuss the status of the world - but also, more generally, the status of publication - primarily from phenomenological approaches. One of the core ideas here is to grasp the idea of the real as something resistant, as something that eludes the world, breaks through it and offers resistance, instead of being defined by worldliness, like reality. This means questioning the equation of reality and the real as well as the recognizability of the real. Instead, it is important to ask about the approach in which something like 'the real' encounters: in the question of the origin of the world, its status, its historical dimension, but also that of the real of the body. The reason for the topic is not least the current debate about the new realism and its criticism of correlationism, which usually includes phenomenological philosophy.
Karel Novotný is a researcher at the Philosophical Institute of the Academy of Sciences of the Czech Republic and a professor at the Faculty of Human Sciences at Charles University in Prague. Cathrin Nielsen works as a freelance lecturer for philosophy in Frankfurt am Main.
