ÄGIDIUS von Rom, Augustinereremit, scholastischer Philosoph und Theologe, Begründer der Augustinerschule, um 1245 im römischen Stadtviertel Colonna (daher auch Ä. Colonna genannt), † 22.12. 1316 in Avignon. - A. trat früh in den Augustinereremitenorden ein und studierte in Paris. Er war einer der hervorragendsten Schüler des Thomas von Aquin. Ä. promovierte und lehrte in Paris und wirkte 1292-95 als General des Ordens. 1296 wurde er zum Erzbischof von Bourges ernannt. - Ä., der seiner Gelehrsamkeit wegen »doctor fundatissimus« genannt wurde, begründete die Theologie der Augustiner. Bereits 1287 wurde seine Lehre zur Ordensdoktrin erklärt. Sein Traktat »De ecclesiastica sive summi pontificis potestate« bildete die Grundlage der Bulle »Unam sanctam« Bonifatius' VIII.
