BUFALO, Gaspare (dt. Kaspar) del: katholischer Ordenspriester, Gründer der Kongregation der Missionare vom Kostbaren Blut (C.PP.S.), auch Sanguinisten genannt, Heiliger, * 6.1. 1786 in Rom, † 28.12. 1837 ebendort. - Kaspar del Bufalo wurde am 6.1. 1786 als Sohn von Antonio del Bufalo (1755-1831) und Annunziata Quartieroni (1761-1811) in Rom geboren. Nach dem Besuch der Volksschule von 1793-1797 setzte Kaspar seine Ausbildung 1798-1808 am Römischen Kolleg fort. Am 31.7. 1808 wurde er zum Priester geweiht und war zunächst Kanonikus bei San Marco in Rom. In dieser Zeit gründete er zusammen mit Don Francesco Albertini († 1819 als Bischof von Terracina) einen Verein zur Förderung der Andacht zum Kostbaren Blut Christi, der 1815 in den Rang einer Erzbruderschaft erhoben wurde. Während der napoleonischen Besetzung Roms weigerte sich Bufalo, den von den neuen Machthabern geforderten Eid zu leisten. Er wurde 1812 inhaftiert und in die Verbannung geschickt, zunächst nach Piacenza, dann nach Bologna. Nach seiner Begnadigung im Jahre 1814, die eine Verbannung nach Korsika verhinderte, wirkte er in verschiedenen italienischen Städten als Volksprediger. Im gleichen Jahr fand er in Giano, Diözese Spoleto, das verlassene Kloster San Felice. Hier gründete er mit ausdrücklicher Ermunterung von Papst Pius VII. am 15.8. 1815 die "Missionare vom Kostbaren Blut". Die neue Ordensgemeinschaft war vor allem in der Volksmission tätig. 1822 lernte er Maria de Mattias (1805-1866) kennen, die 1834 auf Anregung Kaspars die "Kongregation der Anbeterinnen des Blutes Christi" gründete. Unterstützt bei seinem Einsatz für die Kostbar-Blut-Verehrung wurde Kaspar vom hl. Passionistenbischof Vincenzo Maria Strambi (1745-1824), der u.a. auch sein Seelenführer war. Während einer Choleraepidemie starb Kaspar am 28.12. 1837 unter dem geistlichen Beistand des hl. Vinzenz Pallotti, des Gründers der Pallottiner. Papst Pius X. sprach Kaspar am 18.12. 1904 selig. Die Heiligsprechung erfolgte durch Papst Pius XII. am 12.6. 1954. Das Fest des hl. Kaspar wird nach dem Martyrologium Romanum am 28. Dezember, bei den Missionaren vom Kostbaren Blut jedoch am 21. Oktober gefeiert. Kaspar del Bufalo war nicht nur ein Mann der apostolischen Praxis in Volkspredigten und Exerzitien, sondern auch ein großer Initiator und Förderer der Andachtsbewegung zum Kostbaren Blut Jesu Christi. Ein Mitglied der von ihm gegründeten Kongregation, der dritte Generalobere Giovanni Merlini (1795-1873), erreichte bei Papst Pius IX., daß das Fest vom Kostbaren Blut, das zunächst nur innerhalb der Ordensgemeinschaft begangen wurde, 1849 auch auf die Gesamtkirche ausgedehnt wurde. Im Unterschied zur bisherigen Heilig-Blut-Verehrung, die sich um Hostienwunder und andere "Blutreliquien" entwickelte, stand im Mittelpunkt der von del Bufalo favorisierten Andacht das Blut Christ selbst, wie es im Rahmen des Passionsgeschehens vergossen wurde und in der Eucharistiefeier vergegenwärtigt wird. Die Andacht steht damit in einem komplementären Verhältnis zur Eucharistiefrömmigkeit. Hatte noch Papst Johannes XXIII. im Jahre 1960 die "Litanei zum Kostbaren Blut" als kirchliche Litanei approbiert und damit der gesamten Kirche empfohlen, so wurde im Zuge der nachkonziliaren Liturgiereform das Fest vom Kostbaren Blut auf universalkirchlicher Ebene abgeschafft, da es eine Doppelung zum Fronleichnamsfest darstellte. Im liturgischen Eigengut der Missionare vom Kostbaren Blut hat sich das Fest bis heute als Hochfest und Titularfest der Gemeinschaft erhalten. Auch die Passionisten kennen das Fest in ihrem Eigenkalender. Die Missionare vom Kostbaren Blut betreuen die heute noch bestehende Erzbruderschaft vom Kostbaren Blut. Die im Jahre 1960 von Papst Johannes XXIII. päpstlich approbierte Litanei vom Kostbaren Blut (vgl. AAS 52 [1960], S. 545-550: Epistula Apostolica de Cultu Pretiosissimo Sanguinis D. N. Iesu Christi Promovendo) wird im neuesten Enchiridion Indulgentiarum noch immer besonders genannt und mit einem Teilablaß versehen, vgl.
